On this special edition of our IMSP podcast, we switch it up by having our podcast host interviewed instead! Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Mariana Bečková has been an IMSP student since the beginning. She later transitioned to English College in Prague and is currently studying for her Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology with a focus on childhood and trauma. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, acting, and modeling, as she is also a Miss Grand Czech Republic winner!

Grace and Courtesy: Why is it so important?

Grace and Courtesy is a major part of the Practical Life curriculum from infancy through adolescence. You might overlook the Grace and Courtesy curriculum when you first visit a Montessori classroom; unlike Mathematics or Language, there usually isn’t a dedicated shelf or corner for it. However, it is nonetheless an essential part of the curriculum, with set lessons and goals; its „didactic materials“ are the teachers themselves, as well as the children’s community. The Montessori Elementary classroom is a dynamic system led by carefully trained teachers to enhance the learning of the 6 to 12-year-old student by aligning with their stage of development.
