Planting of the Tree of Liberty 1918 – 2018

We are proud to join the “Trees of Liberty 1918 – 2018” project which included planting the Czech national tree - the linden - in our school garden.

Through this memorable act, we honored the rise of Czechoslovakia and celebrated its 100th anniversary. The treetop bears a symbolic ribbon tied with 100 tricolor bows. the entire school, including our toddlers, primary and elementary children, our team, as well as the Executive Director, Katka, participated in the planting ceremony. In Montessori, learning through projects is quite common, and includes a variety of experiences. This time, our children closely observed how a tree is planted, and at the same time they learnt what proper care for trees consists of. The children also learnt some facts from history, ecology, music (we all sang the Czech national anthem during the planting ceremony), and from political science as well.

Our school linden represents for us not only a tree of liberty, but also a tree of peace, joy and place of our regular school and community meetings. You can also find our linden tree on the map of all the Trees of Liberty planted in the Czech Republic.
