EU Grants information

In the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 school year, IMSP successfully enrolled in a grant project, funded by the European Union, entitled Multicultural Education and Inclusion at the International Montessori School of Prague. The grant focuses on supporting children who are non-native speakers of English, increasing inclusiveness and diversity-related competences of Primary and Elementary children and their parents.

The project consisted of:

  • individual support for non-native English speakers
  • projects and activities aimed at Elementary students, focused on democratic values
  • parent sessions on themes of inclusiveness and multiculturalism
  • community meetings

IMSP is a highly diverse multicultural environment. Within the Primary and Elementary program, the students represent more than 20 cultures, and the majority of instruction takes place in English, the community's shared language. For students who are not fluent, the school provides support in individual English as a Second Language classes. In a community like ours, it is critical to recognize, respect and celebrate each culture and identity, and actively prevent exclusion or bullying based on racial, religious and cultural differences. The key task of the teacher is to support and develop key competences leading to mutual respect and understanding, regardless of our differences. The teachers must be offered continuing professional development and ongoing education to manage this important aspect of their work.

Currently, from January 1st 2020 until December 31st, 2021, IMSP is running a grant project aimed at supporting children with different native language within its Primary and Elementary programs, registered under #CZ.07.4.68/0.0/0.0/18_066/0001560.

The project's activities include:

  • Project lessons within our Elementary program, aimed at developing and strengthening pro-democratic education and civic competences of our students
  • Specialist workshops for our parent body and interested public, aimed at both the Primary and Elementary programs, with topics concerning inclusion, supporting diverse communities, special pedagogical support, or global and developmental education
  • Community meetings for our parent body and interested public, aimed at both he Primary and Elementary programs, with the aim of strengthening active citizenship, deepening the cooperation between our school and parents, and creating a positive multicultural community.

We thank the EU and local community for their ongoing support!
