Please welcome this week’s guest to the IMSP podcast – Krishna Ramani!

Currently living in Arizona while pursuing his degree in computer science at ASU, he looks back at his time at IMSP as a period of self-discovery. Speaking with our host Mariana, Krishna shares how the freedom to explore his interests at such a young age helped him to grow his independence and confidence. Transferring these skills into a traditional school setting, Krishna is able to thrive while pursuing his passions. Press play to learn more!

Krishna in his own words:

My name is Krishna Ramani, I attended IMSP from Kindergarten to 2nd Grade. Currently, I am a freshman at Arizona State University studying Computer Science. A few of my hobbies are basketball, weight lifting, and coding on the side.

Twenty years ago, IMSP opened its door for the first time. This podcast series follows Mariana Bečková — IMSP alumna and graduate of the program — as she shines a light on her fellow Montessori graduates. Celebrating our 20th anniversary, we are taking time to reflect with students who have been with us along the way. Cooking With Children can be fun

It is often said that “the family that eats together, stays together”. We would like to suggest taking it a step further – and encourage every family to cook together, too. In Montessori, we know that kitchen work provides a host of benefits to children, all the way from toddlers to adolescents; it is a part of the Practical Life curriculum as soon as children can walk! What is a motto that you live by? When I was young, my dad often reminded me: “Always do your best.” In the same way, what I often try to keep in mind is "Do what you can, where you are, with what you have."

Understanding your child's inner sense of order

Have you ever noticed that your child enjoys singing the same song over and over again, or wants you to repeat the same story for what feels like a million times? Dr. Montessori highlighted the importance of sensitive periods in children, which are known as windows of opportunities for children to develop skills, including movement, language and most definitely, order. A child’s need for external order is present as early as childbirth and peaks in their second year, before fading at about the age of 5. This period of development helps a child to develop a connection between themselves and the world, process information and overcome challenges.

Tidy Up! An Activity Your Toddler Will Love

Looking at our Toddler classrooms, even a casual observer will notice that half of the children’s time seems to be spent cleaning. They’re busy sweeping, wiping, mopping, scrubbing and brushing; even almost antiquated activities, such as washing laundry by hand or polishing wood and metal objects, have their place.
